Nova Rides respects your privacy. This policy describes how we handle personal information when you use our website and services.
1. Who we are
Nova Rides processes personal data to operate our peer-to-peer car sharing platform in Nigeria. This Privacy Policy explains what we collect, why we collect it, and your choices.
2. Data we collect
Account data: name, email, phone, password (hashed), profile photo, and role preferences. Verification data: government ID, driver’s licence, NIN, date of birth, address, and verification results from providers such as YouVerify. Trip data: bookings, messages, reviews, vehicle tracker data managed by Nova Rides, optional pickup/return check-in coordinates, and support tickets. Payment data: transaction references and amounts processed by Paystack or Flutterwave (we do not store full card numbers). Device & usage data: IP address, browser type, and app interactions for security and analytics.
3. How we use your data
We use personal data to create and manage accounts, verify identity, process bookings and payments, pay hosts via our payment partners, send transactional emails (verification, booking updates), prevent fraud, comply with legal obligations, and improve the platform. With your consent where required, we may send marketing about Nova Rides.
4. Sharing with others
Hosts and renters receive information needed to complete a trip (such as name, contact details, and booking dates). We do not share a guest's live location or trip telemetry with hosts — Nova Rides handles all vehicle tracking internally for safety, theft recovery, and late-return recovery. We share data with payment processors, email providers (Resend), identity verification partners, insurers where relevant, and cloud infrastructure providers (including Supabase). We do not sell your personal data.
5. Retention & security
We retain data for as long as your account is active and as required for legal, tax, and dispute purposes. We use industry-standard measures including encrypted connections, access controls, and secure password hashing. No system is completely secure; please use a strong unique password.
6. Your rights
Under applicable Nigerian data protection law, you may request access, correction, or deletion of your personal data, or object to certain processing. Contact us via the Help page. We may need to retain some data for legal or safety reasons.
7. Cookies & local storage
We use cookies and similar technologies for authentication, preferences (such as theme), and security. You can control cookies through your browser settings, but some features may not work without them.
8. Children
Nova Rides is not intended for users under 18. We do not knowingly collect data from minors.
