Discretionary Conduct & Access Policy
Nova Rides Limited
Effective date: 20 September 2026
Nova Rides is built around a simple principle: people should be able to access mobility without being treated unfairly because of who they are.
Our platform brings together vehicle owners, renters, and other members of the Nova Rides community. To maintain a safe, respectful, and trustworthy environment, Nova Rides may take discretionary action where conduct, circumstances, or information creates a legitimate concern about safety, fraud, misuse of the platform, discrimination, or compliance with our policies.
This policy applies to all Nova Rides users, including guests, hosts, prospective users, and other participants on the platform.
1. Equal Access and Non-Discrimination
Nova Rides does not permit discrimination against any person on the basis of:
- Ethnicity or ethnic group
- Tribe
- Nationality
- State or place of origin
- Religion or religious affiliation
- Gender or sex
- Sexual orientation
- Disability
- Age, except where age-related restrictions are required by law, insurance, or legitimate platform requirements
- Marital or family status
- Pregnancy or parental status
- Physical appearance
- Language
- Any other protected characteristic recognized under applicable law
A host must not reject, cancel, or otherwise disadvantage a legitimate booking simply because the guest belongs to a particular tribe, ethnic group, religion, gender, state, nationality, or other protected category.
Likewise, a guest must not refuse to deal with, mistreat, threaten, or discriminate against a host because of a protected characteristic.
2. Nigeria-Specific Conduct
Nova Rides operates in Nigeria and recognizes the diversity of the Nigerian community.
Discrimination based on tribal or ethnic identity is prohibited.
Examples include, but are not limited to:
- Refusing a booking because a guest is Igbo, Yoruba, Hausa, Fulani, Ijaw, Edo, Efik, Ibibio, Tiv, or belongs to another ethnic group.
- Refusing a booking because someone is from a particular Nigerian state or region.
- Using tribal slurs, stereotypes, or derogatory language toward another member.
- Treating someone differently because of their accent or language.
- Requiring additional conditions from someone because of their ethnicity or perceived background.
- Making statements suggesting that people from a particular tribe or region are inherently dishonest, dangerous, irresponsible, or unsuitable to use Nova Rides.
The same standard applies regardless of the direction of the interaction. Guests, hosts, and Nova Rides representatives are all expected to comply.
3. Gender and Sex
Nova Rides does not permit discrimination based on gender or sex.
A host may not reject or cancel a legitimate rental solely because the guest is a man or woman.
A guest may not refuse to rent from or interact with a host solely because of the host's gender.
This does not prevent Nova Rides from taking action where there is a legitimate safety, conduct, legal, insurance, or operational concern that applies to the circumstances of the specific rental rather than to a person's gender.
4. Legitimate Safety and Risk Decisions
Non-discrimination does not mean Nova Rides must accept every user, vehicle, booking, or transaction.
Nova Rides may restrict, suspend, cancel, or refuse access where there is a legitimate reason to do so, including:
- Suspected fraud or identity misrepresentation
- Stolen or unlawfully obtained vehicles
- Unsafe or improperly maintained vehicles
- Insurance or coverage issues
- Suspicious payment activity
- Threats, harassment, intimidation, or violence
- Repeated policy violations
- Attempts to circumvent Nova Rides systems or fees
- Failure to complete required verification
- Misuse of a vehicle
- Unauthorized commercial use
- Unauthorized cross-border or interstate use where applicable
- Tampering with tracking or security equipment
- Previous conduct that presents a documented safety or trust concern
- Failure to comply with applicable law or Nova Rides requirements
These decisions must be based on the relevant conduct, risk, documentation, or circumstances, and not on a person's protected characteristics.
5. Host Discretion
Hosts have a legitimate interest in protecting their vehicles and personal property.
However, host discretion cannot be used as a reason to discriminate against members of the Nova Rides community.
A host may raise a legitimate concern about a booking where there is a specific and reasonable basis for doing so.
For example, concerns relating to:
- Verification
- Vehicle use
- Booking requirements
- Insurance
- Payment
- Safety
- Previous documented misconduct
- Compliance with Nova Rides rules
may be considered by Nova Rides.
A generalized statement such as “I don't rent to people from [tribe/state/gender]” is not an acceptable basis for refusing a legitimate booking.
6. Guest Conduct
Guests are expected to treat hosts, Nova Rides personnel, and other members respectfully.
Nova Rides may take action against guests who:
- Harass or threaten hosts
- Use discriminatory or abusive language
- Intentionally damage property
- Attempt to defraud a host or Nova Rides
- Misrepresent their identity
- Attempt to circumvent platform requirements
- Repeatedly violate Nova Rides policies
- Engage in unlawful or dangerous conduct
7. Discriminatory Content and Communication
Discriminatory, threatening, abusive, or hateful content is not permitted through Nova Rides.
This includes content communicated through:
- Booking messages
- Reviews
- Profiles
- Support conversations
- Telephone or other communication relating to a Nova Rides transaction
- Other Nova Rides-controlled communication channels
Nova Rides may remove content and take further action where appropriate.
8. Reviews and Ratings
Reviews should reflect the actual rental experience.
Users must not use reviews to:
- Attack someone's ethnicity, tribe, religion, gender, nationality, or other protected characteristic
- Promote stereotypes
- Threaten or intimidate another user
- Retaliate against someone for reporting a legitimate issue
- Publish discriminatory or hateful content
Nova Rides may remove reviews or other content that violates this policy.
9. Reporting Discrimination
Anyone who believes they have experienced discrimination or discriminatory conduct through Nova Rides may report the matter to Nova Rides.
Reports should include as much relevant information as reasonably available, including:
- What happened
- When it happened
- The people involved
- Relevant booking information
- Messages, screenshots, photographs, or other evidence where available
Nova Rides will review reported conduct and may take action based on the information available.
10. Nova Rides' Discretion
Nova Rides reserves the right to determine the appropriate response to conduct or circumstances that may affect the safety, integrity, or trust of the platform.
Depending on the circumstances, Nova Rides may:
- Request additional information or verification
- Remove content
- Cancel a booking
- Restrict access to certain platform features
- Suspend an account
- Permanently remove an account
- Restrict a vehicle from being listed
- Prevent future bookings
- Refer matters to relevant authorities where appropriate
Nova Rides may take immediate action where it reasonably believes there is a serious or immediate safety, fraud, security, or legal concern.
Nova Rides does not need to wait until a loss, injury, theft, or other harm has occurred before taking reasonable preventive action.
11. Fair Application
Nova Rides aims to apply this policy consistently.
However, every situation may involve different facts. Nova Rides may consider the specific circumstances, available evidence, history of relevant conduct, severity of the issue, and potential risk when deciding what action is appropriate.
The existence of discretion does not permit discriminatory decision-making.
Any action taken under this policy should be connected to a legitimate platform, safety, legal, insurance, or community concern.
12. No Retaliation
Nova Rides does not permit retaliation against a person for:
- Reporting discrimination
- Reporting harassment or unsafe conduct
- Cooperating with an investigation
- Raising a legitimate safety concern
- Exercising a right under Nova Rides policies
False, malicious, or intentionally misleading reports may themselves constitute a violation of Nova Rides policies.
13. Policy Updates
Nova Rides may update this policy from time to time to reflect changes to the platform, applicable requirements, insurance arrangements, safety procedures, or community standards.
The most current version published by Nova Rides will apply to users of the platform.
Our Standard
Everyone using Nova Rides is entitled to be treated with respect.
Your tribe, state, gender, religion, nationality, background, or identity should not determine whether you are treated fairly on the platform.
At the same time, being a member of the Nova Rides community means accepting responsibility for your conduct.
Nova Rides reserves the right to act when that trust is compromised.
